New Affordable housing coming to Penistone soon!

New homes for sale and rent in Saunderson Road, Penistone were shown at an event at the Community Centre on Saturday January 11th.

The 22 two- and three-bedroom houses and bungalows at the site, named Woodlands near Saunderson Road, have already generated immense interest, according to developers Yorkshire Housing.

The first properties are due for completion in April.

Affordable Housing is a clear priority of the Penistone Town Community Led Plan. Our young people need to be able to afford to buy homes in our community instead of having to move away to find homes they can afford.

To find out more about these houses visit this website http://my4walls.co.uk/Display.aspx?iid=840#.Ut_EM01FCUk

Take a look at the BMBC Local Development Framework soon to be the Local Plan

You should all visit the BMBC website and view the Local Development Framework which is Barnsley Council’s plan for development of the borough over the next 13 years. The plan shows a need for up to 1100 houses in Penistone West.

This PDF document is interesting as it marks some of the possible locations for review or to be retained as open space https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/media/Development%20-%20Planning%20and%20Transportation/Planning%20Policy/DSAP%20consultation/Penistone%20Selected%20Sites.pdf

However, you should visit the LDF site and take time to view the plans for our area. A second phase and opportunity for public consultation should be available to us soon. I understand the LDF will become the Local Plan.

Take a look at the website, by clicking here

and also open up the map

which is quite a large file. You should then be able to move the map to view your particular area.

The Penistone Town Community Led Parish Plan is published!

Make sure you visit www.penistonetowncouncil.gov.uk and look for the Penistone Town Council Community Led Parish Plan. It was released on 20th July 2013, and contains many aspirations of our community. There are many actions in each section which need following up, and BMBC are reviewing it. Hopefully they will adopt the plan promptly.

Please ensure you take a look at this import document for our parish community of Ingbirchworth, Penistone, Springvale, Cubley, Millhouse Green, and Thurlstone.

Dransfield are progressing well with the Phase 2 redevelopment of Penistone town centre

No doubt most of you will have already seen the new build taking shape on St Marys Street in Penistone. It looks like the developer is making good progress. With any luck we should see the ground floor development ready for occupancy from November 2013, and the top floor from February 2014.

Already, I have been told 6 out of the 7 units are already either taken or in negotiation. I do hope that this will become a great benefit in the heart of our town.

Phase 2 Dransfield Development has finally commenced

Well, it’s the official “sod turning” event today at 100pm. I will be there to witness the next phase, even though work has already started about two weeks ago.

With a lot of interest in the 7 units on the ground floor, I hope that there will be new business coming in to complement those already in Penistone.

Whilst Platts has closed recently due to retirement of the owner of the business, I do hope that in this new development we will see a variety of business blossom and bring new jobs into our community.

In the meantime, I hope we will see another business take over Platts unit, once it has been refurbished.

Phase 2 DRANSFIELD Development on St Mary St, Penistone may start in April 2013!

Watch this space, but according to Dransfield the funding has now been approved to allow them to start work on the phase 2 development which will see new mixed use retail, business and office space down St Marys Street, opposite the Royal British Legion.

You can see what is planned on their website here http://www.dransfield.co.uk/property.php?id=79

There is just one minor problem to resolve involving highways requirements, but I am told they hope to being initial works from April 2013.

Fingers crossed! As I understand it, there is a lot of interest from businesses in these new retail, and mixed use and also some interest too in the new planned managed work office space.

It is great to see Dransfield invest with this new development for the benefit of the economy in Penistone.

I do hope they are able to resolve the minor highways issue and begin work.

I can’t wait to see the improvements this will bring to the business economy in Penistone.

We can be proud to see that not one town centre shop is not taken up now, and these new facilities will encourage much more economic investment, securing more jobs and business in Penistone!

Northern Powergrid have begun much needed work in Penistone Community

I am delighted to see that Northern Powergrid have begun work on replacing some of the ageing infrastructure throughout Penistone, Millhouse Green and Thurlstone.

Much of the overhead lines will be replaced with new underground power cables.

Some disruption is to be expected, but this will secure the sustainability of provision of power throughout our community.

Northern Powergrid are also providing a new substation into the town centre of Penistone to provide sufficient additional power for the future demands of the economy of our town.

Take a look at this link http://www.northernpowergrid.com/news/penistone_residents_attend_public_meeting.cfm to see what they are doing

It is great to see new and much needed investment in Penistone West!

Buckingham Care Home Nursing Care review.

I have been investigating recently concerns from residents whose family members are staying in Nursing Care at Buckingham. Due to the low numbers of patients referred by the local authority to Buckingham Care Home for “Nursing Care” the Care Home was reviewing whether they could continue to sustain the provision of specialist nursing care.

The Buckingham Care Home are fully booked for patients referred for “Residential Care” and also receive patients for Intermediate and Respite Care.

However, for some reason the NHS and local authority referrals into the Buckingham Care Home have tended to only be for residential care instead of nursing care.

I escalated for support within BMBC and the teams involved in referral of patients and they have now reviewed their referral patients and reassessed some more for nursing care.

I hope that this will mean more patients are referred to this great new facility in Penistone.

Pot Holes in Penistone West!

With all the bad cold and wet weather we have had this winter it has taken a toll on the roads in Penistone West!

I have urged BMBC Highways to visit Halifax Road, near Ingbirchworth, High Street in Penistone, and also Chapel Lane Penistone to repair the large potholes which have appeared.

Let me know of any other big potholes in your area. Or you can email direct to BMBC Highways on roads@barnsley.gov.uk
