The £1.4m plan to upgrade Penistone’s electricity supply, on hold since last summer, will resume shortly, once working terms are agreed with Barnsley Council.
Northern Powergrid have already installed a high voltage cable from the primary substation on Green Road to Sycamore Road, stopping short of the private road at the side of the doctors surgery where a new substation is to be built.
All the cable ducting is in place on Talbot Road down to Thurlstone Road and cables will be installed this month.
They will also be carrying out works on Back Lane shortly, in conjunction with the Gateway development there.
Town centre works will take six to eight weeks to complete, including building and commissioning the new substation, once the go ahead is received.
This should provide Penistone with a sustainable power supply to support further growth in the town. http://www.penistoneupdates.com/
