Another major power failure to hit Penistone on 10th June.

Well Northern Powergrid suffered some major disruption to their network with a major overhead power failure which may have been caused by cable theft.

Supplies were interrupted from about 1130hrs and recovered in most places by 1900hrs on Sunday 10th June. It affected a very large part of our community.

However, I discovered that a major underground cable fault along Huddersfield Road meant that residents on that road and the PGS ALC had to remain on diesel generators for their electrical supply, until planned works completed which I am told should have been by Tuesday 19th June.

I know that Northern Powergrid are also planning, as per my earlier blog, on works to provide a new much needed additional substation in the town centre and we should see plans over the next 6 months for the installation of this supply.

Our community has been impacted by quite a number of power failures, but I am pleased to see that Northern Powergrid have a plan to resolve and improve service.

Northern Powergrid would also like to visit Penistone to run an information day and I hope to let you know more about that.

Major Water Mains renewal takes place in Penistone!

Yorkshire Water are renewing a 100 year old water main running along High Street onto Market Street and terminating at the top of St Marys Street outside HSBC in Penistone.

This essential work represents significant investment in Penistone Town Centre, but will bring with it major disruption to the centre of the town whilst the water main is replaced.

The work will start from 25th June and will involve traffic light control from Market Street up to the Park Avenue junction by the SPAR.

The remaining High Street past the Surgery, Library, and up to St Johns School junction is likely to be closed to through traffic until mid September, although the contractors are aware of the Penistone Agricultural show weekend so should make allowances for that.

Through traffic will be rerouted along Clarel Street along Chapelfield Lane and onto Park Avenue to rejoin Market Street and will also be rerouted down Green Road into Springvale to avoid the High Street. HGV’s will be rerouted via Fullshaw Cross to bring them down Mortimer Road into Penistone and onto Green Road where accessing Clyde Union Pumps.

Work has already completed on Ward Street to replace that water main, so I hope that this major work will be completed as quickly as possible.

Following this major work, other parts of the town will see scouring processes to clean out pipes which are not as badly damaged as the water mains they are having to replace. With any luck once complete, we should see increased water mains pressure for our community.

Looks like the phase 2 Dransfield Development may commence by August!

I am reliably informed that barring any delays caused by the planned Yorkshire Water mains works in the town centre, then the Phase 2 Dransfield development should commence by August 2012.

This new facility will see the St Marys Street spoil site opposite the RBL developed with much need mixed retail and managed office workspace.

This link http://www.dransfield.co.uk/news.php?id=592&src=property should show what is planned at the site.
